This will be important when the RBOC's actually upgrade the last mile service to its users. As for Bell Atlantic it is not going to happen in my area for quite some time and I might say the same for Media One in terms of cable. But for the city markets it might have an impact if people are that cpu savvy about what the tradeoffs between ADSL and Dial up analog are.

Dear Max 90: Impresses me. I think its a winner. I know that if I were buying a new computer in the retail market this would definetely sway my decision. JDN

Yes this is big news but not new news - CPQ announced earlier in the year that all consumer products would have the capability for high-speed connectivity by the Christmas '98 season.

What is interesting about this is the depth of CPQ's work to provide a complete and usable solution without limiting consumer choice. They have made it easy to get this capability through any of the possible 'pipes' - Cable, xDSL or satellite, with most of the hassle taken out of the process. This kind of across the board industry work is one of CPQ's strengths and I am glad to see them using this to develop competitive positioning.
