Jim - agree - and the effect on Russia was only a shadow effect - the truth is that Bush wasn't able to follow through because there isn't the political support for large scale ground offensive with attendant loss of American lives - nor is there support for an army of occupation. I always felt that Desert Storm was a phyrric victory -
a triumph of logistics, really, against a third rate force built up by the spin doctors and compliant media into an equal foe. The lessons of Grenada and the Falklands were that it is essential to control the news, and hand feed the media - the missile down the chimney being the classic case - only later was it apparent how many missiles missed and how much 'collateral damage' was hidden. During the engagement we were led to believe by the dupes on the spot that a cruise missile could follow street signs - surprising they didn't stop at traffic lights too! E

Hi Ron; Re > Persian Excursion 1.<< good term, I'm convinced 91
was mostly a proving ground for some new technology, ( & some that
hasn't been made public as of yet ) . We are not out to destroy
Iraq, and have some other evil fill the vacuum, we
just want to hamstring Hussein enough to send a message.
