AR, the commercial does give the impression that they build to order within the store, but I believe it is just hype. CB

Antoine,

I have not seen Best Buy build to order yet but these stores are warehouses that offer multiple options for everything. I imagine that if you compare the prices you would see that the Best Buy BTO prices are about 10%-15% percent cheaper than Compaq and use no-name components. Therefore you can appeal to both price conscious shoppers and name-brand shoppers. Best Buy's BTO is probably contracted out and is just another product to sell. Best Buy can't be trying to build any name for themselves in building computers.

I think the deal is the BTO kiosks cost the stores very little to run. And I don't think it competes that much with their main retail business because most retail shoppers will be unwilling to wait.
