Sold Yahoo 171, eBay 127, AOL 143, Intktomi 122, RealNetworks 40.

Valuation concerns, or an expectation that a pull-back is coming soon?

EXTRA! EXTRA! Read All About It!

November 16, 1998, Sherman Oaks, California

Noted SI poster William Harmond sold his Internet stock holdings today for what multiple sources suspect was a handsome profit. In fact, a post written by the erudite private investor Nov 16 1998 at 10:58 EST (that's 7:58 PST for those of us on the left coast who are mathimatically challenged), provides the raw facts:

<Sold Yahoo 171, eBay 127, AOL 143, Intktomi 122, RealNetworks 40.>

That very morning, Mr. Harmond graciously agreed to an interview on the subject in his tasteful Southern California home, while lying by the pool under the warm Internet sun:

Q: To be frank, Mr. H., many of us here at SI are shocked, although we attempt to politely couch it as a pleasant surprise. In a few cogent words, can you explain WHY?

A: It gets chilly this time of year, even in paradise.

Q: But here we are by your pool and....

A: No comments on my attire, please.... Enough has been said about that already. You should have seen me in July....

Q: Of course, Mr. H. Can you summarize your investment philosophy in 25 words or less?

A: Certainly. Buy low, sell high. The sun may set, but the sun always rises.

Q: 14.... That's brilliant!

Q: Mr. Harmond, thank you for taking time out from your postings by the pool. Can you continue to keep us informed of the weather, day by day? When attending school on the other side of these hills, I remember those glorious day in December and January. Can you please keep us apprised of them?

A: Most certainly.

Q. Many thanks.

A. My pleasure.

Why did you sell? Have you become bearish short-term?

Secret line to AG?

Are you related to the gentleman? Perhaps the FTC will roast Mr. Gates and his empire? WM the ultimate insider?
