PD... He stated there is encryption technology that allows the mp3 files to be stored only on the original version of the disk but not copied. He mentioned Zip,Jaz and Clik disks.

Puff -

I didn't see the interview, but he must have been talking about the new Liquid Audio software. Apparently, when they encode the songs which they will offer for sale, the resulting files have an anti-copy feature, to prevent unlimited reproduction of copyrighted material.

However, there is nothing (technically) to stop anyone from copying standard MP3 files from one disk to another. The Zip drive has no way of knowing what kind of data is contained within a file. It's all just ones and zeros as far as the drive is concerned.
