SHANGHAI — The People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, has announced sweeping administrative reforms that will close provincial-level branches and shift their management to nine regional branches, the official China Securities News reported.

The reforms will strengthen financial supervision and improve the central bank's ability to quickly adjust monetary policy, the report quoted Vice Premier Wen Jiabao as saying Monday.

The central bank headquarters in Beijing will regulate municipal and provincial branches, the report said.
