X, re:I know people on the threads have said they buy options in their IRA's-so I guess those people were just blowing smoke.

Buying calls within an IRA is possible, however options nudity is strickly verbotten. (BTW, in my prior post the term "straddles" s/b "spreads.")

Alan

X.. no smoke. I have Waterhouse and Schwab IRAs that I've traded options (no naked ones) in for years. I haven't done so in about a year, but unless they've changed policies, I know for a fact that they allow it. (Don't trade options anymore.) What exactly is it you wish to do, that isn't allowed?

By the way, the reason the IRS won't allow trading naked options (or shorting stock) in an IRA, is because they feel that they have to protect us from ourselves. In their minds, or should I say Congress' minds, that kind of trading is just too risky for people's savings. Just FYI, so don't argue the point with me. I already agree with the opposite view.<g>
