<offtopic> G'day all - dear Jerard, George, Zeev et al, regarding Iraq, it is hard to claim victory when dealing with psychopaths, who are willing to sacrifice their own relatives, not to mention their race, to satisfy their megalomaniac needs. However, I'd disagree with Stratfor's implications. To say the US cannot make any substantive gain in this kind of confrontations is at the very least premature. The recent events have allowed the US to tighten up the perimeter a bit. Thus far, it is difficult to assess the explicit call for a new regime. Is the US ready this time to back a moderate faction? And not repeat the fiasco back in 1991.

IMHO, I do agree with Zeev that *unholy alliance* has never worked, especially when dealing with schoolyard bullies. Having said that, Stratfor's comment about the Brits does provide some insight. For the US, or any entity, for that matter, to achieve a long lasting impact, it is important to promote a more permanent agenda. In this case, it is equally important to reach the Iraqi people. To steal the idea from Rouseau [I think,] their bondage is the US bondage, and if the US is to rid of the tyrant, they must be liberated [both physically and psychologically.]

Finally, while I respect Stratfor's ability to analyze the situation, I find myself extremely limited for being an armchair analyst. I mean, it is so easy to say the US response is not adequate in some ways, it is a lot more difficult to make decisions that can make a lasting impact. Or, at least I try not to behave like one esteemed congressman, Senator Alen Specter <VBG>

best, Bosco
