Additional post from Valuemart on the yahoo thread concerning the investor conference.

>>>montgomery securities (now called nations bank montgomery securities)......... my information is that they were holding a conference at the helmsley palace hotel (.n.y.c.) and that the conference attendees were clients/customers of that firm. i have no idea how many company's were invited to make presentations....i do know that candies inc. WAS invited and that neil cole agreed to go and make a candies inc. presentation...... how good is he at making presentations?...well last year i attended one of his presentations (one organized by ladenburg thalman co.) and neil cole's presentation at that time included a video show and some shoe-product samples......basically he spoke about the company's history and it's future business plans........the video was used to show off some of candies television advertising (at that time jenny mccarthy was the company's primary spokesmodel)...the shoe samples were used to give attendees an idea of what the company's products look like....... all in all he gave an excellent presentation to an audience of approximately twenty five people..... i believe cole does these type presentations only occassionally (because his time is truly better spent in managing candies inc's fast growing business)....anyway now here we are more than a year later (from the conference i attended in may '97) and i would expect that coles presentation today would be very powerful....he now has the credibility benefit from several excellent consecutive quarterly operating results, he now has a top-drawer licensing partner (Liz Claiborne), he now has a potential LARGE PROFIT new business division (jeanswear/apparel), and his company is now clearly positioned to grow TWO recognizable brand names (both candies and bongo)...... i would expect his presentation today included all of the above positive aspects of candies inc. and MORE........ flysatch you asked about candies 3rd qtr earnings... my opinion is that cand will meet or beat the expected .13 EPS number for the following two reasons.....number one the company had almost NO unsold inventory at the conclusion of the 2nd qtr, July 31st. (this is significant because it means candies DID NOT have to sell any significant close-out or "marked-down" inventory during it's third quarter).....number two is that at the close of it's second quarter candies announced a LARGE backlog increase ($15 million dollars (50%) ahead of last years concluding 2nd qtr backlog level)......this backlog (retailers pre-order purchases at full margin prices) pretty much INSURES that candies third qtr. top line revenues will meet or beat expectations......... sooooo with the revenue goals met and NO old inventory to mark down i see no reason why candies 3rd. qtr bottom line profits will not meet or beat expectations.........<<<
