Geoworks , Mitsubishi strike phone deal

ALAMEDA, Calif., Nov 16 (Reuters) - Geoworks Corp. on Monday said it struck a deal to provide Japanese electronics maker Mitsubishi Electric Corp. with engineering and software products used in Mitsubishi's enhanced phone, the Moem-D.

Generally speaking, the new group of enhanced phones are similar to voice-only cellular phones, but capable of receiving data. The Moem-D features voice, phonebook, email and PC connectivity and uses Geoworks' operating system,.

Financial details of the deal were undisclosed. Geoworks stock was up 2-13/16 at 4-7/8 by mid-afternoon.

Separately, Geoworks unveiled its new Premion Interface+ graphical system designed to increase ease-of-use and functionality of everyday wireless phones.

The Premion Interface+ turns voice-only handsets into enhanced phones using a software platform with both the Wireless Application Protocol standard and the HTML Internet markup language, a flexible graphical user interface.

According to CNBC's schedule, David Thatcher (Geoworks CEO) will be on Squawk Box sometime after 8:00am.
