The problem was maybe enough did not think of the potential disaster and pray for the thing to die out before it hit land. If enough had thought to do it and prayed the thing would have fizzled.

How many would it take? If one too few people prays, does God say "oh, what the hell", and let the thing go ahead and wipe people out? I'm sure a lot of people in the affected countries prayed not to be annihilated. Was that self-serving?

What about earthquakes? How does one pray for exemption from a disaster you don't know is coming? Personally, I don't think the storm would have changed its course if all of humanity had prayed with all its might. Obviously, we aren't going to know.
