Freeman List "US promises are worthless for Mr. Netanyahu since it is obvious that it is US policy to get him removed from office. They may very well have succeeded,..." MASTER OF DECEPTION by David Basch If things are what they seem to be, then, truly, Bill Clinton is a master of deception, and dangerous for Israel too. Let's look at the record. He got Mr. Netanyahu to support him on the Oslo process as a result of promising action on Iraq and on freeing Pollard. As a result of this support with the Wye "breakthrough," it made Clinton look like he was successful in foreign policy and enabled him to gain credibility for the Democrats who did a sweep of elections. This, of course, helps Clinton in his fight against impeachment and in claiming support from Democrat politicians for whatever else he wants to do. In doing all this, Mr. Netanyahu betrayed his long standing Republican allies. The Republicans won't be coming back to aid Israel's cause soon. What a disaster for Israel, placing her in Clinton's hands. Clinton didn't come through on his promises to halt Saddam. Saddam's and Tariq Aziz's unworried demeaners and the fact that Rubin'wife (Rubin is the Presidential foreign policy spokesman or some such) remained in Iraq seem to have been telltale since they must have known that there was no danger. Clinton planned to, and did let Saddam off the hook. Hopefully, he gave the Republicans a campaign issue in the next presidential election. The trouble is that many Republicans can't be trusted to help Israel anyway since they are covered with oil and the public's memory is short. The Israeli leadership ought to be thinking, thinking, in ways never deeper about Israel's future. Mr. Netanyahu, cultivating Clinton's vineyard, forgot to cultivate his own. As a result of this blunted governmental purpose, Mr. Netanyahu saved the opposition Labor party -- his nemesis -- and has enabled too many Israelis to go on believing that surrender to the Arab savages will be good for Israel, as though empowering the jackals to roam will bring safety to the sheep. This outcome is another failure for Mr. Netanyahu in leadership. He has confused his people no end, as he has confused Israel's supporters abroad. Israel must get on target and soon, and must forget the Oslo and the Wye garbage, which the enemies of Israel are using to such good advantage agaisnt Israel. US promises are worthless for Mr. Netanyahu since it is obvious that it is US policy to get him removed from office. They may very well have succeeded, judging by how poor Mr. Netanyahu has protected Israel's interests by allowing himself to be duped -- duped by a master dupe, Bill Clinton. Needless to say, in my worry I may be over reacting and misconstruing what is happening. If so, I beg everyone's forgiveness that I am wronging them in this. Hopefully I am wrong and that there is time to correct my error and make amends. If not, there is much to worry about. What can the US do to retrieve Israel's trust? Let the next US negotiator coming from the US to do business with Israel bring Pollard with him. This will disprove the idea that Pollard knows about some dreadful US plans to work against Israel. This is only a minor down payment since much, much, much, more is needed if trust is to be regained. Mr. Netanyahu can begin to regain his own credibility by publicly showing himself to be reading his own books. And then he ought to get back to doing things directly for Israel rather than serving false friends. As Pirke Avoth (2:3) says: Be on your guard against the ruling power; for they who exercise it draw no man near to them except for their own interests; appearing as friends when it is to their own advantage, they stand not by a man in the hour of his need. The ruling power in this case is Clinton. Has enough been said on this topic?
