To all, More tech stock Xmas lies and an admission that an old Xmas lie was indeed a lie in the news today:

1. Compaq has done twice as well as expected with their new direct sales model and they have declared the new marketing scam a success. This is almost too funny to be believed. What did they do, sell two boxes instead of one to E. Pfeiffer, LTD. in Houston? This direct strategy has just started. You don't declare a horse a winner coming out of the gate. Just when you think that Compaq has stopped insulting our intelligence by making news releases nobody could believe, they do it again. BTW, I expect their direct experiment to be a success. I simply think it will cannibalize their current distribution channel. But, folks, the chutzpah of these scamsters is amazing.

2. Well, last year when those of us on this thread said that sub 1K boxes were a disaster for the pc market, the permabulls countered with the pie in the sky hope and a prayer that cheaper boxes would attract lower income buyers to the pc market. Didn't happen, according to a news story today. Also, low price is now the most important factor for more affluent buyers. This from A.C. Nielson. Wait a second! Aren't they the creeps who got "Punky Brewster" cancelled? <G>
