Interesting little tidbit about Zip250 I just found out

The Zip250 evidently uses an updated sensor/reflector scheme to determine if a 250MB cart has been inserted into the drive. The 100MB disc's clear plastic window has been replaced by a phosphoresent window. The Zip250 drive blasts the window with a blast of light which illuminates the phosphoresent effect, and the drive measures the decay time of the light from the 250MB disc's window.

I assume this convoluted scheme is in order to try and deter counterfeit Zip250 discs from being made.
