I had and 8mm video tape I wanted to completely erase without running through my video camera. Used to repair TV's and had this CRT degauser. This thing has a very strong magnetic field, a loop about a foot in diameter, made my lights dim when I turned it on. Tried to degauss my tape but it didn't erase the tape, no matter how hard I tried. This was talked about on this thread over a year ago, and no, You can't erase the disk easily.

Cheeky, OTOT *** floppy erasure ***
I passed a kitchen magnet repeatedly across a disk touching the
plastic casing. Norton Disk Doctor tested the floppy afterwards
and found no damage. Point: it takes a stronger or closer magnet
to erase data. We've done this test here before. That doesn't
mean you can't erase with a magnet - just that it has to be very
strong or close.

I'm disappointed you're not a kid. <G>
