ztect: re: my evaluation criteria

I evaluate products from the viewpoint of an experienced software developer. I try to point out the strengths and weaknesses of each tool. Some of the observations would be obvious to a casual end user, while others are "insight" gained from over 24 years of being involved in the software tools market.

The tools are evaluated on their own merit. Other than stating a personal preference for one tool's approach or functionality over another, I make no effort to rank them. There are lots of paid reviewers who do that.

I also don't go through the effort of testing each tool on various operating systems or platforms. If a tool claims to work on a specific environment, I assume it works in a basic configuration in that environment. There are always exceptions to configurations, and I don't have the time (or inclination) to be that finicky about a mass market product.

There are several of my reviews on SI in various threads. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to locate them all right now. I'm off to catch a plane so I can evaluate another product. I had all my evaluations catologed, but have since upgraded/switched my machine and lost that particular file. Well, not lost ... I'm sure it's there somewhere. Somewhere back on the CSHK thread, somebody posted links to several of my evaluations. Perhaps you can search through there?

Regards,

TED
