ztect: The testing guidelines from the link you mentioned (Sawkins) are skewed towards the hardware environment. In my opinion, the most problematic area is software. Hardware is fairly easy to detect and correct. That's why there are so many tools out there that purport to do that.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the sawkins website creator was originally (or currently) associated in some manner with one or more of the toolset developers reviewed on the site.

If a product doesn't analyze the application software and the user written code (Excel spreadsheets, etc.), then I don't think it's very effective as a Y2K tool. As soon as you put that requirement on the tool, several of the hardware-centric tools drop out of contention for "best-of-breed".

That's my brief "at-a-glance" opinion of the sawkins site.
