As Zeev mentioned, the "shrink" to .18 micron and below does different things for different industries.

In the handheld and wireless market, you've got to have low power for increased battery life, together with small size.

In the desktop market, many (but not all) buyers want higher performance.

The die shrink gives you all of this. There will always be a market for heavier power hungry cell phones and slower computers, but these will not be the margin products.
