Guess it's obvious I'm a little bored today......I'm rambling .

It's OK to ramble sometimes, and vent too. Got to let the pressure out or one will pop.
One can only hope that by Christmas of 99 the mass public will be
able to buy an ADSL G.Lite modem at there nearest store, and
"Plug and play" it in there computer,......wishful thinking,......will see.

All in my own opinion.

How does this help/effect WSTL if at all?

GlobeSpan First to Offer Capability for Interoperability with Multi-Vendor DSL Chipset Solutions Check It Out
November 16, 1998 -- GlobeSpan Semiconductor Inc., today announced that its G7000 multi-line code DSL chipset family is now fully interoperable with multi-vendor DSL chipset solutions. GlobeSpan's G7000 chipset interoperability architecture now provides a common platform for all types of DSL applications. The significance of this architecture is to ensure universal multi-vendor interoperability for both the Central Office (CO) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), while lowering the barriers to new protocol implementations and deployment. The full programmability and field upgradeability of the chipset eliminates the risk of product obsolescence and accelerates the time-to-market for new broadband network services.

The enhanced G7000 chipset provides programmable functionality for full interoperability at the signal processing, data conversion and the application layers. This unique implementation gives GlobeSpan the ability to isolate, localize and fix interoperability issues without impacting the overall system. The programmable data conversion processor handles multiple protocol suites for end-to-end internetworking of current and next generation systems. The data conversion function is designed to support bursty Internet traffic, low-latency voice applications, video-on-demand data and nxDSO framing functions with performance monitoring and surveillance capability.

The G7000 chipset is designed to enable communication equipment suppliers to produce innovative products with robust and long-reach performance. Service providers will benefit by reducing deployment costs for DSL services. New bandwidth-intensive applications will continue to place demands for new or revised industry standards in the future. "Our interoperability architecture accelerates the network design validation addressing today's needs with the flexibility to easily accommodate future adaptations," said Armando Geday, GlobeSpan's president and CEO. "We have led the industry by deploying commercial DSL solutions, and we will continue to leverage our experience and expertise in offering innovative product solutions that greatly accelerate broad deployment of DSL services."

The chipset is based on GlobeSpan's programmable Billion Operations Per Second ("BOPS") DSP core, the sixth generation architecture specifically designed to support all popular DSL line codes including: 2B1Q, CAP and DMT versions T1.413 and G.992.2 (G.Lite). The ADSL DSP offers breakthrough power consumption at less than 0.5 watts, making this an ideal solution for low power, high-density products located in CO and Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) systems.

The G7000 interoperability architecture enables dynamic interworking of multiple vendor DSL solutions with the capability to interoperate with products that conform to ANSI, ETSI and ITU DSL standards. All versions of the G7000 chipset are available today and shipping in volume. The G7000 chipset family, which includes offerings for 2B1Q, CAP and DMT, is available now in a variety of packages with OEM volume pricing starting at $39.
