Then again there is good old silver coin. My local source just quoted me these prices:

Canadian coin-- $3.15 per $1 face value.
US coin-- $4.15 per $1 face value
40% halves-- $1.38 per $1 face value

Notice that 40% halves are silver well under melt. I believe about seven of them would = one oz of silver. The drawback is no interest on the circulation value and cost of the seven half dollars mentioned--three dollars and fifty cents. --Al
