"Under minds"?? Not "undermines"?

On the subject: many opponents of the death penalty oppose it because innocent people have been executed in the past. This is the "better safe than sorry" principle. Giving someone a life sentence (bad enough) at least makes it possible to reverse a wrongful conviction, before it is too late.

You are creating a strawman. Nobody is saying that criminals should go unpunished. It is about what constitutes the punishment. A genuinely "all life is precious" pro-lifer would be against the death penalty.
