ST. LOUIS (Dow Jones)--Rockwell International Corp.'s (ROK) Rockwell Automation and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) agreed to develop and support automation software.

In a press release Wednesday, Rockwell Automation said the companies plan to develop systems based on Microsoft's Windows Distributed interNet Applications, or DNA, architecture under the memorandum of understanding.

Windows DNA is designed to enable multi-vendor software applications to work together in a single distributed enterprise system
