Zeev, Stitch,

The concept of shredding bills, or burning them is not a new one. I remember in Indonesia in the 50s the govt used to periodically announce that a certain large denomination note would be cut (literally) in half, with only one half spendable. This would provoke a stampede by the populace to spend ALL large denomination notes in exchange for all sorts of durables, many of which were totally useless to the people buying them.

So I have this vision of the average Japanese household whose 400 sq ft apartment is stacked to the ceiling with widgets, gadgets etc, etc...... :o))

I still like the idea of the Japanese govt issuing coupons to 18-25 year olds - might spark a sudden drop in the average age in Japan, don't you think?

Best,
Steve.
