Dave - There are many compression algorithms available, my guess is that they are using some sort of Quantization table.

I don't think so. The coding method you talk about may be used at some point in the process, but the patented compression algorithms they are talking about look similar to those used for JPEG/MPEG compression. I.e. The algorithms are image specific, lossy and they use random image sub-blocks and DCT's. (I'm curious as to why the company chose this instead of the industry standards such as MPEG.)
