Intel sources in the past have said
the company will integrate
functions, such as 3D graphics, into
companion chips--called
chipsets--but have generally stood
against integrating functions into
the main processor itself. Otellini's
statements, however, indicate that
Intel has decided to go down the
integration path with processors as
well.

Patrick,

The schedule is for MXi to go into production at the end of calendar Q1. This is straight from McDonough, Cyrix VP. There is nothing to guess about the roadmap - only the execution of it.

Patrick,

You may be confusing MXi wih PCOAC (I think NSM is going to call the PCOAC Media PC).

MXi is a 2 chip design, similar to MediaGX, with updated core and graphics. While MediaGX uses the 5x86 core, MXi is using Cayenne core. The release date of MXi has been moving from 2H98 to end of 98 to Q198. So if it ships in March, it is a little late.

PCOAC is the one that is supposed to show up in June 99.

Between the releases of these 2, we may see a Socket 7 based chip based on Cayenne core, but there was only 1 report in the press that mentioned it, and no info from NSM about it.
