You are correct. I was somewhat aware of this historical context but didn't take it into account in my statement. As you say, those now who attempt to confuse the two issues have different intents, prejudices and assumptions about acceptable measures from the originals.

Really, all they have in common is that they represent the right wing of their times, and the prejudice itself. (my interpretation.)

I stand corrected.
