Microsoft Web browser integration resented by some.

>Boeing made a conscious choice to use the first version of Windows 95, which had no Web browser.

Scott Vesey of Boeing said in a videotaped deposition that the company decided to use Netscape Navigator because it worked on many operating systems -- such as Unix, which runs high-end scientific work stations in wide use at the aerospace company -- instead of just Windows.

Internal Boeing documents exhibited in court showed that the company was under increasing pressure to switch away from the aging first version of Windows 95 because it cannot handle the latest hardware improvements.

Vesey recommended moving up to Windows 98 but if that happened the company would have to move to Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

''We do not have a choice,'' he said in a Boeing report introduced into evidence. ''The integration between Internet Explorer and the desktop operating system cannot be fully disabled.''<

I think, given a clear shot, Unix-based OSX with it 10,000 odd Mac/Carbon upgraded apps can make some clear inroads.

You can crank someone's genitals in a wringer for just so long.
