CPQ are cutting cost on travel. Many of the staff are now flying in the back of the aircraft vs business and F/C
According to a director level CPQ employee, this travel policy has been in effect since fall of 1995. Every employee including executives must book the lowest cost direct route and use advance bookings where possible, and a 'full fare' ticket requires approval of your boss.

Tandem and DEC had different travel policies when CPQ bought them (execs could book FC etc.). As a part of the merger, the travel policies for DEC and Tandem were changed to match CPQ's more restrictive policy.

I personally think this is sensible. I appreciate a fiscally responsible policy. Just as an example, if each of CPQ's 70,000 employees does on average 4 trips a year, and the average difference between advance and full fare is $1000, that amounts to $280 Million dollars. that's a lot of money which would materially affect EPS and thus the value of my investment.
