The study is the most detailed examination yet of British attitudes to home
computers. It contradicts previously held beliefs that computers have become the
preserve of the young. Opinion Research International found that the over-60s
spend more time on their home computers than any other age groups and talk
more about computers than anyone else.

Twenty years ago, children were caught reading under the bedclothes or listening
to the radio while their parents expected them to be sound asleep. Today, they
sneak out of bed to play on the computer, according to the study which found
that more than a third of under-10s were caught using the home computer after
10pm.
