Doug, Your observation is excellent, but I respectfully disagree.

Let's put in conversation back in the context of the original response to Karl:

When I first read Chuck's response, I really felt that it was a sincere reply. Now I'm just not sure.

I strongly disagreed with him on the share buy back. IBM and many other companies with marginal revenue and EPS growth have shown that buy backs can do wonders to shareholder value. The stock did enjoy a "pop" on the news that stopped the continuing decline following the release of the last quarter earning's report. To me it is clear, that the company needed to make a statement that enough was enough.

No one could disagree that the only long term solution to remaining independent is to provide sequential revenue and EPS growth. This has obviously been lacking for some time, and, no matter how financially strong the company remains, performance is the only answer for the future.

The problem in the analogy between the PAO and IR is when I perceive that information is being provide to some shareholders for their personal use. I really have problems with this concept.
