Back to the merger. I have a different opinion. It actually makes a lot of sense. AVID is having a very difficult time developing a complete digitial delivery system. The breakdown occurs with its server system.

TEK is also having a difficult time developing a digi delivery system. The breakdown occurs with its networking system. But TEK has the best server system around.. Profile.

So by merging, Tek and Avid would marry their strong technology and overcome their individual obstacles. Each would eliminate their strongest competitors and AVID would end up with a virtual monopoly on office based digital computer networking systems.

Both are also having problems. AVID is a great company, but it has a far worse rep that you are acknowledging. Time and again, AVID has made product promises that it failed to keep. It is trying hard to buckle down.. but I've been working with AVID for years now and I know about its weaknesses.

I am actually quite bullish on AVID. I am very excited about the relationship between AVID and TEK. I think a stronger relationship with Panasonic as well will really push AVID to the top. But just recognize this won't be a straight ride up.
