I have noticed that since the last child left my father and stepmothers house my dad has decided he will now cook. At my initial urging he started watching Emeril. Now I notice small changes in his vocabulary when I call him. Phrases such as, "BAM" and "Kick it up" have become a little too common for it to be a coincidence.

My grandmother also “classically” trained me. Classical in the sense that this is how it has been done in the family so you can pass it down. I am pretty sure she was determined to make sure I would know the family secrets for cooking the Thanksgiving turkey. The secret was sage, I have since "kicked it up a notch." I find it very interesting the different family recipes we each have. I like the term "comfort foods" the best. For example, the many different concoctions that can be made from JELLO. Everyone seems to have some absolutely bizarre use for this rather simple substance. But, for each of us that amalgamation seems and is something we cherish. It is a part of our life, our history and something we feel the need at some point to pass on to another.

Family values through food. No better way.
