From Cisco's press release:

"Cisco's IP-ATM CoS facility is available now for the Cisco 7500 series routers."

I'm not arguing with you. ATM is important. But customers have routers as CPE, not ATM switches. The whole point of MPLS is to integrate routers (and other layer 3 devices) to ATM switches (layer 2 devices) and offer ATM like QoS across both legs.

I think that Cisco, by adding ATM functionality to its IOS router code, add credence to all ATM equipment providers.

If you don't think so, that's ok too. Remember, I'm now a NN long !!
