All: MOTOROLA SEES PROMISING FUTURE FOR
CDMA, ONE-WAY PAGING

NEW YORK -- Despite a domestic slowdown, Motorola Inc. [MOT] is betting on growth for CDMA technology sales in
overseas markets, especially China, Executive Vice President Merle Gilmore said today. At a telecommunications investment
conference sponsored by Warburg Dillon Read, Gilmore said the only hurdle for massive CDMA deployment in China was
government regulators. But he said Motorola anticipates that regulators, seeking to make maximum use of available bandwidth,
eventually will move to embrace CDMA as cellular growth speeds up in China's densely populated cities.

Another problem area for Motorola -- one-way paging -- also has a future, Gilmore said. Pagers still are in demand by teenagers
and young adults worldwide, and the use of pagers to retrieve E-mail, sports scores and weather reports is still in its infancy, he
said. "We're confident there's a bright future in paging, even though that future is going to look different," Gilmore said. "There still
will be significant growth and opportunities."
