I would agree, of course, that it's not a serious discussion. I would add the additional point that Microsoft could "pull" Windows98 from the market, but so what? Who's going to enforce copyright law for them? Windows users would lose the legendary Microsoft support services, advising them to reformat and reinstall when things go wrong, but beyond that, life goes on. In the alternative universe where this really happens, there's just another ongoing legal soap opera to be entertained by. Meanwhile, the trickle to Linux would become a flood, and in a year everybody would be wondering why their computers don't crash anymore.
