I'm not sure how appropriate the JAVA discussion is to CPQ investors so I'll be brief on this unless others want more detail.

But WORA (Write Once Run Anywhere) has been one of the least successful JAVA features, routinely ignored even in SUN's implementations. And for good reason - the jack of all trades is master of none.

If Scott and the boys think that forcing the JAVA community to the lowest common denominator on performance and features is the way to advance JAVA, they are doing a great disservice to the potential of the initiative. Already they have lost the support of HP and many other influential software developers, and my sense is that IBM will be next.

How could this possibly be good for JAVA?
