joe, my time horizon is one day, tops 2 days...Here are the rules of THE TATRADER(if I would always follow them...) Out of FCX for 1/8 loss Jeff Cooper is one of my mentors... 1)Never hold a losing position overnight 2)If a stock is closing poorly, take your profits no matter how small they are.. 3)Hold Strong closes overnight...(in the case of gold stocks, if the fast stochastic 8 day hits 100, sell next morning into strength) 4)As soon as you enter a position, put a protective stop 3 to 5% below entry price..Sometimes I move it to 7% area if I have a neckline pattern, that I am trying to snuggle underneath... 5)Once your position moves up 5%, move your stop to entry point... Then every 3% that your stock moves up, move your stop up 3%... NEVER GIVE BACK A PROFITABLE TRADE...Different traders have different formats of how they set their stops..This rule is not hard and fast with me either...However, I note that I get stung when I don't abide by it.... 6)If a stock gaps and holds the gap price after the 1st hour,stay long..if you are playing that side of the market...Put your stop just below the gap... 7)If a stock gaps, and does not hold the gap, sell it immediately...Many traders automatically fade any gap...Don't chance it going against you..You can always re-enter if it comes back to move above the gap price... regards, Mark P.S.
