Prudent decision. A gold coin on par* with a bank note would not only compete with the bank note(s), it could easily default to collector or bullion status if POG rises. I like the idea of gold coins in circulation. The issuer is just being practical by establishing some distance between the coin's face value and spot value of the metal. The euro gold coin decision should be viewed as positive to anyone seeking monetization of gold (or silver).

As far as using the coin to reduce CB bullion reserves -- monetization could be a worthwhile trade-off. Any more views on this?
