Actually, enigma, I didn't say it's different this time, I just said I didn't think we were facing a big decline any time soon. As far as being responsible for our own retirement, I think the message has gotten across anyway, despite the fact that nothing has been finalized. The constant threats to Social Security alone are enough of an impetus to invest, IMO. Think about it -- my company doesn't offer pensions, just 401(k)s. That is the only possible place where it could be 'different this time,' and is well worth considering. I'm not saying it IS different this time, I'm just saying that's the only change that could be a permanent addition to the equation, and thus could usher in a new notion of stock valuations. All the other new era garbage is subject to the same old cyclicality, IMHO, but the advent of the 401(k) merits some thought. And I should probably get back to working for a living so I can keep my contributions up. ;-)
