re: electrical grid .... interesting site for a bit of a basic primer on the system (no y2k stuff) howstuffworks.com

Not too long after reading the preceding post on the power grid, a guy walked in the office looking for a piece of property. I got out the quads and was showing him the general overview of location and prices. After a few minutes of discussion, and based on his comments/questions, I had to ask him, "Are you looking for a y2k site?" Turns out that is very much what he had in mind.

Turns out also that he has a contract to remove generators from remote radio towers as per EPA requirements, converting them to propane/natural gas and selling them. Top of the line, spare no expense, 50 year govt. contract, heavy duty industrial grade generators. I signed-up for one pending inspection, and he went off to look at some "remote" property.

I also called a few nearby neighbors and gave them the contact information. There's security in having stable neighbors.

Looks like problems in the supply chain to me? I could make a case that over 15% of American businesses should be put into the "At Risk" category.

From BankAmerica 10Q dated 11/16

<<<<<. As of September 30, 1998, the Corporation has placed approximately 17% of its Vendors, and approximately 8% of its mission critical Vendors, in an "at risk" category. In accordance with its contingency plans, the Corporation will be focusing on these "at risk" mission critical Vendors during the fourth quarter of 1998 in order to mitigate any potential risk.>>>>>

From Dupont 10Q 11/13

<<<A survey was provided to key suppliers, and of the 30 percent which responded, the company assessed approximately 40 percent as having a high risk of not becoming Year 2000-capable on a timely basis. In addition, the company is conducting an assessment of its key customers, focusing on their Year 2000 capability as it affects customer ordering procedures, and delivery of and payment for company products.>>>>>
