Mark, You have heard that God is love. Love has characteristics about it and one of these is jealously. Do you think that it would be wrong for a husband to love his wife and then suddenly fall in love with another instead? Don't you think that wife would naturally be jealous because an outside source has just stolen her affections away? That's just one way to understand God's jealousy over his people. He paid for them by the shedding of his sons blood (Jesus) on the cross and is jealous over them. Notice how jealousy and love go hand in hand in the scripture: Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm; for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. Chris
