EarthLink Named CompUSA's Exclusive ISP Partner

CompUSA to Market EarthLink's Internet Services in More Than 200 Retail Stores Nationwide

PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 23, 1998--EarthLink (Nasdaq:ELNK - news) just scored another blockbuster deal, this time with one of the country's largest computer retailers, CompUSA (NYSE:CPU - news).

As CompUSA's official Internet service provider (ISP), EarthLink's Internet access services will be exposed to millions of potential customers through a wide variety of channels, including hardware and software sales, training, technical services, and online and catalog sales, delivered through CompUSA's 200-plus Computer Superstores.

EarthLink will have exclusive exposure on CompUSA's private-label computer systems and will be the default ISP in all Net-related training curricula. In addition, the agreement makes EarthLink the exclusive ISP in all retail point-of-purchase promotions, in-store registration drives, database mailings, grand opening events and other promotional functions.

''This exclusive deal is significant because it gives us prominent exposure in one of the nation's largest computer retailers -- and it's an endorsement from one of the most respected names in this industry,'' said Garry Betty, president and CEO of EarthLink. ''The decision to partner with CompUSA was easy, because both our companies are dedicated to delivering high-quality service and making technology friendly and productive for the mass market.''

The arrangement has many components designed to drive traffic to EarthLink and get the company's TotalAccess Internet access software into the hands of potential members. CompUSA will distribute EarthLink's software through a variety of channels, including take-home materials given to students who take classes in CompUSA's training centers and disks placed at the 10 strategic point-of-purchase locations in each store.

TotalAccess will also be pre-loaded on all CompUSA private-label computer systems, and CompUSA will promote EarthLink's Internet services on its Web site.

''Our partnership with EarthLink supports our goal of being a total solutions provider by allowing us to offer a proven Internet access solution,'' said James Halpin, president and CEO of CompUSA. ''We are excited to offer our customers EarthLink's world-class Internet access service.''

Other co-promotions include:

-- Database Mailings - quarterly inserts will be sent to all CompUSA
credit card customers and personal and commercial leasing
customers.
-- Technical Services - EarthLink's TotalAccess software appears on
all CompUSA extended warranty CD-ROMs.
-- Other Promotions - Grand prize drawing for a full year of
EarthLink Internet access will be available to attendees of
"Surfin' Saturday" Internet classes, and joint in-store
promotions will be negotiated with other CompUSA OEM hardware and
software partners.
