i decided to get my pc now because merced chip was so far off and felt like applications that took advantage of 64-bit os wouldn't be there for years after that.

Bearke - Re: " And MMX was the biggest thing of all time and sold one or two chips "

Here's a clue - every x86 processor sold by AMD, Intel, NSM/Cyrix (Media GX may be an exception) and IDTi, in the past 18 months, has MMX inside.

The number sold is probably close to 150,000,000 to date.

Michael -- interesting week-old news tidbit re. AMZN: "Ingram, the book distributor that Barnes & Noble acquired last week, supplies Amazon.com, a competing online bookseller, with
nearly 60 percent of its books, a regulatory filing disclosed
today."

news.com

do you have picks re. inflated internet stocks, especially puttable ones, that are even more vulnerable than the high-flying leaders (AMZN, YHOO, etc.)? (i.e., cos. that are even _less_ deserving of the lofty valuations?)

Mike, I just disposed of another third of JOF after noticing
that it was at a 42.4% premium last Friday at 5 15/16. (I sold
it today at 6 1/4... perhaps the premium has changed due to
a big move in the Japanese OTC market since Friday, but I didn't
have time to track down a graph of the JASDAQ, although I made
some desultory effort to.) May substitute EWJ, although with
currency instabilities I'm actually a bit happier with the
OTC market than the overall japanese market. Do you still hold
JOF? Barron's cover should mean Asian recovery on people's minds...
maybe a contrarian sale. Almost out of chip-equip by now, but not
entirely...still hanging onto some biotechs though.

Take care,

HB
