UNITEC WINS CDPD GAS WELLHEAD SCADA ORDER Unitec is pleased to announce that it has received an order from Renaissance Energy for a CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) system to monitor a small field of six gas wells in Northern Alberta. According to John B. Smyth, President, this is a significant development, as it opens new market opportunities to the Company. This small field would not normally justify a full blown SCADA system, yet the maintenance costs of manual site inspection, blow down and gas flow data gathering is expensive. The CDPD link allows the field to be cost effectively integrated into one of the existing Unitec SCADA systems already operated by Renaissance. The CDPD link will allow the Master Station to poll the sites over a standard PSTN (dialup) telephone. As part of the order, Unitec is expanding the existing system to communicate with a total of 90 sites, allowing the customer to configure each station for either radio or telephone (CDPD) operation. This is the third SCADA order that the Company has received from Renaissance over the past twelve months. Delivery will be in February, 1999. Unitec is an emerging growth company specializing in advanced technology telemetry, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and environmental monitoring equipment for the water, electricity, oil & gas and transportation sectors. It distributes its products and services through an expanding network of independent agencies in North and South America, the Caribbean, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
