This is from one of the websites I was on, covering LCD screens from COMDEX

Another issue for the future of desktop LCDs is uncertainty about the way they'll connect to computers. CRT displays use information sent out of the computer with an analog electrical signal, but LCD displays are inherently digital.

That means the digital information the computer stores gets converted twice, once in the video card from digital to analog, then again in the display from analog back to digital.

"It's ridiculous to have a digital bitmap in the computer, convert that to an analog data stream, then convert it back to digital. There's no reason to do that," Mentley said, except to make LCD displays compatible with current video cards.

The result of all the conversions, particularly in larger LCDs, is distracting "jittery" pixels that hop back and forth between two positions, Mentley said.

I think TDFX's decision to include a digital out for LCD screens on Voodoo 3 is a great move. With DVD support, digital LCD out, one of the fastest 2D core and probably the fastest 3D card out there, I think Voodoo 3 will be the the choice card for the OEMs.

Although I think TDFX can improve their image on the OEM department. Even though I do think that lack of some features on 3DFX line of chips effect the OEM acceptance, I think 3DFX has clearly a better card/price/compatibility then most other cards (maybe except for TNT but that can be arguable). The problem I think is the image that 3Dfx represent is one of game card, not of general use card or business graphics card, even though Banshee card is a very good for that purpose also. Even the name of the chipset Banshee can be more associated with computer gaming experience than business graphics card.

I am in TDFX for the long run, because I believe that TDFX clearly has better technology. I just wish that they can gain more OEM acceptance with more emphasis on business graphics with added bonus of being a great game card, not the other way around.

Guess I spilled more beans then I meant to on my first post... Well I think TDFX is going to be a interesting ride.. hopefully an upward ride... >:P

OT (as if anything I've posted so far today was not ;)

Jeff I'm glad that CD finally broke the $14 barrier. If it manages to hold this level, then I will speculate that it will be a trading buy (because it will take years for Cendent's management to convince me I should invest in their company). Speaking of speculation, I thought may be I should put my money where my mouth is and buy some CD options. But given the magnitude of speculation in that market today, I think I'll take my chances elsewhere. Take a look at edreyfus.com Have you ever seen so much froth on a big cap stock in one day?! The November 15 calls, which both out of money and expire tomorrow traded 5,120 contracts today! This is almost as bad as what we had with NOVL and COMS yesterday. BTW, I made a bet on NOVL yesterday which so far is paying off and I'm thinking of getting into COMS. You may want to check them out. Mean while, VISX is now 65 (a lot of good that does me, I maxed out at 60, and were to slow buy more as I should have) and the other candidate I was seriously considering, FLEX, moved too fast for me to catch (up 10 points in 3 days). Every time I think I'll jump in on a pull back, it leaps forward! O'well...Porche is an over-rated car anyway <G>
