Sudan produced 3.2 million barrels of oil since production began 1992

KHARTOUM, Nov 18 (Reuters) - A government-owned newspaper said on
Wednesday Sudan produced 3.2 million barrels of oil until July since production began in the African country for the first time in 1992.

Al-Anbaa daily said most output came from Hijleg oilfields, 730 km (455 miles) southwest of Khartoum, producing 2.5 milion barrels. They were put on stream in June last year.

Abu Jebra oilfields, near Hijleg, produced 471,629 barrels since its inauguration in December 1992 while Adaryeil, 600 km (375 miles) south of Khartoum, produced 169,347 barrels.

The daily said Sudan produced oil from 52 oil wells, out of 64 wells dug so far.

Sudan is currently constructing a 1,600 km (1,000 miles) oil pipeline from the Hijleg oilfields to Port Sudan on the Red Sea. Work at the pipline is scheduled to complete by mid-1999.
