On 17 July 1998, Briefing (www.briefing.com) printed a list of "must own" stocks; the so-called "Briefing 10". I made a Yahoo portfolio consisting of 100 shares each of (AOL ATI DELL LU ORCL QWST SUNW TLAB VRTS YHOO). The initial cost was ~ $83K. Oddly enough, 7/17 was the day the market peaked before the correction. The Briefing 10 suffered considerably in that time period. Today it is worth $124K, and has appreciated 49.22% since 7/17, and a considerably higher % since 10/8. The Dow, meanwhile, is -3% compared to 10/17.

Take out TLAB, LU and ATI and it's up 75%... since the market peak

Wow.
