Have you heard anything about the DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology which noone seems to talk about. It will not require much ramp up because it carries the signal over existing copper wire at speeds of up to something like a 10MB file in 5 seconds.

I haven't been tracking it closely but a company called Orckit Communications in Israel (ORCTF) seems to be in pole position in this segment. They've done several major deployments with large telecom companies in Europe and the U.S.

I know Cisco last year purchased a privately held company with this same type of technology. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they have something up their sleeve.

post christmas would have probably made more financial sense...but the rattling in the hard drive made me move more quickly.
