Hi Ken,..Re:.I don't mean to 'butt' in here, but while the Tandems and VMS currently have the speed edge, speed in NT area will begin to arrive when the 900Mhz Merced is released.

I don't consider it butting in when you can answer a question and besides, it's been a long time since we heard from you and it's nice to hear from you. So VMS isn't going away tomorrow, just eventually?

Also, regarding your point about the computer is interfacing with equipment that can only produce so fast , we keep forgetting that we're measuring an interval on a physical process, so naturally, finite fast data is limited by the process. Also, can't compare feedback with target until control has adjusted the parameters. Sometimes accuracy requirements completely ignore the mechanical system! <g>

Hope you check in more often and thanks for your thoughts,

Lee

Ken, Why would folks use NT on slow INTEL chips when greater speed and scaleability, not to mention superior reliability/availability/serviceability will be available from IBM, SUNW and others? INTEL CPU speed is unlikely to be world class in the near future. Has INTEL suggested that they will have the fastest CPUs? If they have, I have no knowledge of it. Scott
