Jim Morgan, the CEO of AMAT, commented on Squawk Box that the move to 300 mm is not happening. He is disappointed, of course, since his company is in the forefront of 300 mm technology. According to Morgan, fabs are delaying the move to 300mm wafers because it would require a complete revamp of the entire fab process. Instead of using their scarce capital in that direction, he says, they are going in the direction of shrinking geometries as a way to increase operating efficiencies.
